Las Vegas Rock®

Las Vegas Rock is a unique meta quartzite quarried in the Mojave Desert of Southern Nevada. Originally formed as sandstone, millions of years of heat and pressure transformed it into a dense, exceptionally durable natural stone while preserving its distinctive desert colors and layered movement. The result is a material that offers the beauty of sandstone with the performance characteristics of quartzite.

Las Vegas Rock has become a distinctive material for architecture, landscape architecture, hospitality, and luxury residential design. Its natural desert colors and weathered appearance make it ideal for modern landscapes, drought-tolerant gardens, entry monuments, water features, retaining walls, and architectural hardscape applications.

At The World of Stone, we supply custom Las Vegas rock in virtually any size, finish, and quantity for projects throughout California and the western United States.

What is Meta Quartzite?

Las Vegas Rock® is a unique quartz-rich natural stone formed when ancient sandstone was subjected to intense heat and pressure over millions of years. This natural geological process transformed the stone into an exceptionally dense, durable material with greater strength, lower water absorption, and improved weather resistance than conventional sandstone. The result is a distinctive architectural stone with dramatic natural banding, rich desert colors, and the performance required for demanding interior and exterior applications.

Why Architects Specify Las Vegas Rock

Architects choose Las Vegas Rock for its combination of distinctive natural movement, exceptional durability, domestic availability, and design flexibility. Produced specifically for each project, the material offers consistent block selection, custom fabrication, and independently tested performance for residential, hospitality, commercial, and landscape applications.

Geological Note: Las Vegas Rock is marketed as a meta quartzite. Independent petrographic analysis classifies the material as a quartz-rich arenite with engineering characteristics comparable to quartzitic sandstone.

Quarried and Produced to Order

Las Vegas rock is produced specifically for each project and is not a stocked inventory item.

Every order is quarried and prepared based on your project requirements, allowing us to supply custom sizes ranging from decorative gravel to oversized architectural boulders. Production lead times vary depending on quantity, size, and finish.

Because every project is produced specifically for the client, architects and designers have the flexibility to select slab orientation, block characteristics, finishes, dimensions, and custom fabrication requirements that simply aren’t possible with stocked materials.

Block Selection

Every quarry block is unique. Just as no two marble blocks are identical, each Las Vegas Rock block has its own movement, color distribution, and geological character. Clients are encouraged to review available blocks before production to ensure the material matches the design intent.

Every Block is Unique

Every Las Vegas Rock block is naturally unique, with its own distinctive movement, color palette, and geological character. Before production begins, architects and designers have the opportunity to review available quarry blocks and select the material that best matches their design vision. Once a block is selected, the resulting slabs, custom furniture, wall panels, paving, and architectural elements all originate from that same block, creating exceptional continuity throughout the project.

Unlike stocked materials, Las Vegas Rock is produced specifically for each project. Selecting the block at the beginning of the process gives designers confidence that the finished material will reflect the color, movement, and scale they envisioned, whether the project requires a handful of slabs or an entire estate.

Independently Tested Performance

Las Vegas Rock® has been independently tested in accordance with ASTM and ANSI testing standards to verify its performance for demanding architectural applications. Complete laboratory reports are available upon request.

A Sustainable Choice for Southern California Projects

For projects throughout Southern California, Las Vegas Rock offers an important environmental advantage over imported stone. Sourced from the Mojave Desert region, it travels significantly fewer miles than materials imported from Europe, Asia, or South America, helping reduce transportation-related emissions. Its regional availability can also support sustainable material selection goals for projects pursuing green building certifications, while providing the timeless beauty and durability of natural stone. Combined with its long service life, minimal maintenance requirements, and complete recyclability, Las Vegas Rock is an environmentally responsible choice for residential, commercial, and public landscape projects.

Large Las Vegas Rock quarry blocks are individually extracted and reviewed before being processed into slabs, architectural elements, stone furniture, or custom landscape materials.
